We were tired of overpriced bags that ripped, were too bulky to stack, and slowed us down on the job. The Trailer Bag 510 is the largest, holding 510 cubic feet and up to 2,600 lbs. It's built for roll-off dumpsters and trailers 12 feet or longer, with four 12″ fill ports for running multiple removal machines at once.
The Tough Bags Collar is our most popular and versatile insulation removal bag, holding 84 cu.ft and 450 lbs with a woven, no-rip design and a 10″ collar that fits standard removal machines. For low-dust jobs, Dust Guard Pro is the better choice. For dumpster or large trailer work, the Trailer Bag 510 handles the most volume per bag.
Most standard insulation vacuum bags hold 75 to 84 cubic feet. Tough Bags Collar and Multipurpose models each hold up to 84 cu.ft and 450 lbs, while Dust Guard Pro holds 75 cu.ft.
The Tough Bags Collar has a fixed 10″ collar for a snug, secure connection to your removal machine. The Multipurpose bag has a wider 3.5′ opening that rolls down over your exit hose to form its own collar, so it connects just as easily. What sets the Multipurpose bag apart is versatility: it doubles as both an insulation removal bag and a trash chute for attic debris, batts, and general cleanup, which makes it one of our best all-around bags. Both are woven polypropylene and hold 84 cu.ft / 450 lbs.
Tough Bags' Dust Guard Pro is made from 4.3 oz non-woven material, about 2X thicker than typical removal bags, and engineered specifically for low-dust jobs with a reinforced bottom and collar.

The Tough Bags Trailer Bag 255 is modular and fits any dump trailer: use one for a standard trailer, add a second for a longer trailer, and a third for an even longer one, each holding 255 cu.ft. The Tough Bags Trailer Bag 510 is a single bag built to be a full trailer load on its own, holding 510 cu.ft in one bag with fewer bag changes, and is designed for roll-off dumpsters and larger trailers.
Yes. Tough Bags' woven insulation removal bags carry a no-rip guarantee, backed by real warranties.
Absolutely not. Color has nothing to do with strength. Some companies lean on bold names or dark colors to imply their bags are the toughest option, but that's marketing, not a material spec. Black bags on the market have been made as thin as 2 oz, about as weak as an insulation removal bag gets, and too weak for us to sell under the Tough Bags name. Don't judge a bag by its color; check the actual material weight (oz) listed on the product page. If a bag doesn't list a weight at all, that's a red flag. Our Dust Guard Pro is 4.3 oz, about 2X thicker than the 2.4 oz bags common in the market. Our Collar and Multipurpose bags use woven polypropylene instead, a different construction that isn't rated by oz weight the same way non-woven material is; woven is widely considered the strongest material insulation removal bags come in.
Sizing & Estimating
Start by calculating your attic's cubic footage: multiply the square footage by the insulation depth in feet (depth in inches ÷ 12). For example, a 600 sq.ft. attic with 5 inches of insulation is about 252 cu.ft. Then divide by your bag's capacity, a Tough Bags Collar or Multipurpose bag holds 84 cu.ft. Yes. Denser materials like rockwool or mineral wool require more bags than lighter materials like fiberglass or cellulose, even at the same cubic footage. Tough Bags' Insulation Bag Calculator factors in typical material density so your estimate accounts for this.
For heavy materials like rockwool or mineral wool, Tough Bags recommends filling bags no more than 75% full so they stay manageable to lift and drag. Lighter materials like fiberglass can be packed more fully.
Compatibility & Setup
We always recommend it. An exit hose is a short section of hose between your machine and the bag, and it does two things: it helps secure the bag from blowouts, and it protects the bag from whipping around while it's connected directly to a running machine. It matters most on the Tough Bags Multipurpose bag, where we recommend 12″ to 18″ of hose for even filling. The Tough Bags Collar and Dust Guard Pro use an easy-connect collar that slides directly onto your exit hose, so it's not strictly required there, but we still recommend it as best practice. Yes. The Tough Bags Trailer Bag 255 has two inlet ports, so you can run two machines at once for faster fill on large jobs. The Tough Bags Trailer Bag 510 has four 12″ ports, giving you even more flexibility to run multiple machines on big trailer or dumpster jobs. Secure each connection with tape or a hose clamp, and seal any unused ports with tape to keep an airtight connection.
The Tough Bags Trailer Bag 255 gives you the flexibility to choose. You can position the collars on top of the bag, or turn the bag on its side and side-load it, whichever method works best for your setup. It's a robust, modular dump trailer insulation removal bag built to handle either approach.
The easiest method for closing off a port on a Tough Bags trailer bag is to duct tape the collar/opening closed.
Usage & Safety
At minimum, wear gloves, safety glasses, and a respirator to protect against dust, fiberglass, and airborne contaminants. Tough Bags' Nitrile Grip Gloves are built for this kind of jobsite work, nitrile-dipped for grip and abrasion resistance.
Tough Bags recommends keeping it away from doors, windows, and high-traffic areas. Nails, staples, and other sharp debris can get pulled into the vacuum and expelled at high speed, so give the machine and its exhaust clear space away from people and property.
